"You are what you eat!" - Unknown

“Healthy is a healthy mind!” – Unknown

Lately my work’s being keeping me way too busy, which led to tiredness – then stress. Waking up was a drag. Thinking about all those nagging coworkers I had to engage with, thinking everything’s all about their needs. I was dying a slow, silent painful death. Only 3 weeks leave would make me recover all that lost, drained energy…

You see: at the end of the day, we’re all just humans, with limited capabilities. Meaning we all need to take some timeout in our forever highly demanding schedules to get some breather.  Even 5 minutes of rest can go a long way. Remember God himself worked six days and rested on the seventh day.

“What does all of that got to do with me as an artist?”, you ask. Everything! Let me make one thing clear – artists are nothing but entrepreneur freelancers. Meaning: our schedules are unpredictable. Which can have a negative impact on our health as well as creativity if that persists.

Below I’ve put together some of the health warning signs to look out for as an artist…

Warning signs:

● Tiredness

● Fatigue

● Loss of memory

● Mood swings

● Lack of concentration

● Painful neck

● Sleepiness

● Lack of creativity

● Itchy eyes

Now let’s look at some of the things to consider towards reducing as well as avoiding all those above-mentioned symptoms…

How to prevent or reduce them:

● Exercise at least 30 minutes a day

● Eat a balanced diet by getting a health-related book for instance

● Rest regularly

● Be like Richard Branson: practice power naps

● Listen to your body

● Switch off everything regularly

● Take a walk to nowhere once in a while

● Laugh

● Make mistakes

● Pray

● Meditate

● Do situps for at least five minutes every morning

● Drink water

● Sleep at least six hours at night…

Those are just some of the things to do to ensure you remain focused as well as motivated on your craft. Remember:

A healthy artist is a creative artist!
